Hello friends,

Call for Donations
Urgent - we are trying to raise the money to purchase the second acre of the property for Harvest Grove Community Center. The owner of the property has been gracious to allow us to clear and plant on the property up until now, but we must close the deal.  The total cost of the property is $7500. We have paid half ($3750) and must come up with the remaining $3750 by November 1, 2006

Cornerstone Bible Church has sponsored a fundraiser that allows you to make a tax-deductible donation. Please write checks to Cornerstone and put Harvest Grove Project in the memo.

Letters From David Kipkorir

Hujambo rafiki, Jayne, (Kiswahili for, "what is the news friend")

Concerning the project, I visited a community garden and this is comments from Mr. Samuel and his wife Emily. They told me that since this project has been established here, they have learned a lot from the community garden. They have been trained to produce more vegetables in a small raised or double-dug bed which can feed and sustain the family. Also, labour is very cheap and it does not consume a lot of water since water evaporates very rapidly. They also informed me that these garden techniques can also be well maintained without any problems. They learned how to make compost manure on their own and they were interested in this. They told me that they have tested some other varieties of vegetables in the community gardens e.g Amaranthus and already they have started planting in their garden at home including some trees. You can see them in their garden now. This is our community garden member at plot 32.

For the few months we have worked here, there has been an impact for the people of this community and other communities too.

Mrs Emily, Samuel's wife mentioned that the children's plots is a great challenge in the community and that the children have learned. We have community members waiting to have plots in the community garden. We told them to wait for the next intake after the first group has been released.

Thanks, Have a good day. David.

Habari Jayne, (Habari is Kiswahili for, "how are you doing?)

It a blessing to write to you.  The height of water in the well from the ground is 15 feet We have enough water for garden irrigation.  I know somebody who makes and builds wells with bricks then raises the water up for water storage to supply in the garden.  I spoke to him and he is willing to come and build it.

The community members are using the vegetables which they planted in their plots while others are harvesting seed to plant next year.  The fruit trees we planted here are doing well, custard fruits and bananas.  We are planning to plant more fruits and vegetables next year during rainy season but now we are maintaining the plants that we have planted.

The owner of the property requested to be given the funds to enable him to pay some debts.  Please pray for this issue and let me know how far you have gone with it.  Otherwise he has agreed to be patient to wait, although he is expecting to be given something by the course of this month.

Concerning the project, I have arranged for some rocks/stones for building the construction next year and I got more than 500 stones. Now I am looking for sand and timbers for early preparation. Please I would like to hear from you soon. Have a nice day.

Yours' DAVID

Yard Sale
Harvest Grove Project is having another yard sale. We made $128.00 from the last sale and thank you for your donated items. We hope to earn enough to purchase low pressure irrigation tape. This tape can be connected to raised buckets and is a great way to conserve water during the upcoming hot-dry season (December- February).

If you have items that you would like to donate, please call Jayne Hayes at 626-643-0331.
