Hello friends,

In the States - Thank you for making our fundraisers successful
We have had two fundraisers since our last newsletter. The yard sale (our second) brought in $360 and the Second-acre Fundraiser, a call for donations through Cornerstone Church services, completed the balance needed to purchase the rest of the property in northeast Kenya where the community center is being built.

The transaction of the property is complete now. David and I want to thank you all for your generous gifts and prayers to make this dream come true. With the property paid for, the "cornerstone" of Harvest Grove is solid and we can progress with our plans.

In Kenya
Founder/Director of Harvest Grove David Kipkorir wrote in one of his recent emails that he would like to have a dairy cow to provide milk for his family. During the Second-acre Fundraiser, someone from the church offered to purchase a dairy cow for David. The funds were sent (US$350) and we hope to see photos of David's new cow soon. Up until now, David has not received any monetary compensation for the work he has put into the Community Centre. I am pleased that he and his family are receiving something for their efforts to build Harvest Grove for the past year and a half.

David writes "I appreciate your prayers and also our sister in Christ whom God touch her heart to contribute a dairy cow for my family."

With the funds from the yard sale, the Harvest Grove team in Kenya has decided to finish the construction of the following:

  1. Latrine - its measurement is (8 feet x 30) and they have purchased the materials.
  2. Well - to build with bricks and cement ten feet deep to avoid cracking and prevent contamination of the water
  3. Fence - To purchase three barbed wires for fencing the property.
  4. More Trees - To add plants e.g. cypress, blue gum and indigenous trees along the fence.

Any funds left in the US account will be used to purchase low-pressure irrigation tape. The resource we have found for this unique product only uses a spacing that is designed for planting vegetables and other crops. We hope to be able to retrofit this tape to accommodate the irrigation of trees. The irrigation tape is essential for simplifying the watering during the dry season

David Kipkorir has met with a building constructor who was building a lecture room at the Empowering Lives International Kip Karen River training camp. The builder has an office in the neaby town of Eldoret and he is a Christian. The plan is to build the foundation and then the roof in the first phase. The masonry walls will be added later as we acquire the bricks.

Goals
We need to renew our C.B.O status in January 2007. We plan to register as a non-profit organisation
now that we have established the project with the recent purchase of the property.

Jayne Hayes would like to visit the Harvest Grove Centre again in 2007. If funds permit, she hopes to take some bare-rooted trees with her from the ECHO Farm in Florida. We also plan to purchase more fruit trees locally in Kenya.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

"You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out." --Deuteronomy 28:3-6
