Hello friends,
In the States - Hardy har har for Harvest Grove
Watch for our May fundraiser. We are planning a night of comedy. Funds raised at the comedy show will be used to purchase large storage tanks to collect water during the rainy season and pressure taps to dispense the water during the dry season.
There are two rainy seasons in Kenya, the heavy rainy season from March to May and a second rainy season from October to December. If the dry season is very dry, sometimes the wells in the community are not deep enough and there is a shortage of water for general use. In the year 1999/2000, Kenyans suffered from an extreme drought which stunted crop growth and resulting in food shortages. In the Uasin Gishu District where the community center is being built, there are hopes that the government will supply access to running water in the future, but we do not know when this will happen.
In Kenya - Vincent Joins our team
The weather in Uasin Gishu District is very rainy this time of the year and everyone is busy preparing their fields for planting. Members of the community center are preparing their gardens for planting too. We are making progress in the following:
- Fence - Last year, we set the post for the fence that separates the Harvest Grove property from the road. This year we completed the fence by adding barbed wire. (See photo below)
- Storage Tanks - We are working to raise funds to purchase water tanks to protect the farm and the community members from drought during the dry season.
- Lecture Room - We are at the planning stages of the lecture room. David Kipkorir met with a building constructor from Eldoret in December to discuss building a building that will serve as a lecture room with offices and a small store. The builder, Mr. Sorenson can build the pillars and place iron sheet roofing and then we can add the masonry walls and windows later. This is an inexpensive way to build that is often used in Kenya.
- New Trainer - Harvest Grove Community Center welcomes Vincent Kibor Mutai who has joined our team as a volunteer trainer.
Harvest Grove Community Center now has two trainers, Vincent Kibor Mutai and Kosgei Agness. Agness joined us back in May 2006. Vincent will do field demonstrations at the community center as well as follow up with families who have kitchen gardens and gardens in their yards at home. Vincent is also taking accounting at Moi University Main Campus in the nearby town of Eldoret. This will be year a of action.

In our last newsletter, we shared the good news that funds were donated for David to purchase a dairy cow. |
On a Personal Note
Founder/Director of Harvest Grove David Kipkorir wrote in one of his recent emails that...
"My three children did an interview on Wednesday at Disneyland academy and they all passed. [The academy] is one of successful schools in [the area].
Please friend pray for their school fees. I have provided school uniforms, books and other necessities. Thanks David."
