Harvest Grove breaks ground for new lecture building.

The lecture building is finally becoming a reality. We are using a new builder, Mr. Ken Luvisa and his team is working with volunteers from the community to dig and pour the foundation. "The rains are not interfering too much." David writes, "We have enough iron sheets, nails and we have purchased some timbers for roofing. We still need 3000 more bricks to finish with all walls. Please continue to pray for this to be completed."

The building will be used for shelter from the rain during workshops. It will also house our library and eventually a computer. We will be able to partner with groups who already have programs in Kenya, like AIDs awareness programs and mobile medical care units. We are so happy to see this goal finally coming to fruition and want to thank all of you who been an integral part of this progress.

Water improvements made to aid construction
Workers added six feet to the depth of the existing well to provide Harvest Grove Community Center with more water. An elevated tank was built and a pump installed by local expert Mr. Enock Sang so that workers will have water pressure. The children had fun playing with the pressurized water when the water tank was completed.

Last year, we dug ditches and laid pipes to connect to the government water project. Fees were paid with funds raised from tickets sold last summer to the Concert Under the Stars. The well and the water tank will still be used even after the building is built and we hook up to the water project since the water from the water project is not free.

Harvest Grove board members travel to Nairobi
Harvest Grove Board members took a trip to Nairobi to register the organization as an NGO (non-profit status). Harvest Grove is presently registered as a CBO (community-based organization). The local government urged the higher level registration because "the project is growing very well" with the addition of the new building. David will need to make one more trip to Nairobi to pick up the NGO paperwork.

The new non-profit status will allow us to apply for grants and our tax records will be available to potential grantors for review. We can also partner with groups who have their own programs and are not limited to receiving grants for projects partnered by those who have NGO status.

Kipkorir's get a new cow
A friend of the Harvest Grove Project donated the funds to replace the cow that was lost during the violence outbreak last year. The Kipkorir's are very grateful for this kindness.

The cow produces 4 liters of milk every day, enough to make tea and to provide milk for Purity to drink so that she can have enough milk to nurse the baby.

David bought a second cow with money he received from selling beans and potatoes and the second cow gives them around 3 liters every day. This is enough for the whole family to have milk.

New cow for the Kipkorir's
Purity's sister, Beatrice Jepkurui, milks the cow after school. The cow produces four liters every day.

breaking ground for the lecture building
Purity with Brian Kiplagat, her newborn BOY and daughter Faith who will be three next June.

Excerpt of a letter from David Kipkorir:

Hello Friend,

God is great always that he touched your heart and he managed to provide the building funds through you. Thanks and God bless the work of your hands.

All is well with Purity and the young baby whom I love so much. At day time, he sleeps while taking her breast milk. What a wonderful God who provides us according to our prayer requests. Thank you again for your prayers after asking me if I need a baby boy. Every time, Purity and the girls stay in the kitchen while cooking and singing songs of prayers while I am reading some bible study books. Now my boy will grow up and I shall be staying with him in the sitting room while discussing more about life. God is great.

I wish you peace and grace always and welcome you when you come in June.

In Christ
Love David.

Visiting Harvest Grove in June
I will be traveling with Glenkirk's short term mission team to Nairobi where I will assist in teaching a workshop at the annual Women of Living Water conference. After spending two weeks with the Presbytery women, I will travel north to the Eldoret area and spend two weeks at the Harvest Grove Community Center.

I have raised most of the funds through Cornerstone for both the lecture building and the short-term mission trip. I need an additional $640. by May 1st for the Glenkirk trip. I will still need funds to travel on my own to Eldoret and back to Nairobi.

Many of you have already donated money and offered your prayer support. Please know that your participation is valued and that you are appreciated.

Tickets to the Hafif Summer Concerts are available NOW
I am hoping that the ticket sales for the wonderful Concert Under the Stars fundraising event will complete the funds needed this year. The Hafif Family Foundation has announced that they are anticipating reduced ticket sales due to the economy and so they have reduced the number of concert dates from five to only three.

The Saturday evening concerts are scheduled for:

  • JULY 25 - SMOOTH TOUCH (70s, 80s, and 90s dance music)
  • AUGUST 1 - SUAVE (salsa, top 40 dance music, country western)
  • AUGUST 8 - THE ANSWER (rock and roll oldies but goodies)

As usual, the exquisite food will be provided by the renowned Walter's Restaurant of Claremont Village. If you would like to pre-order tickets, email Jayne at jayneGAV@gmail.com or call 626-643-0331.

"With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling,
and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.
We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him,
according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ."
