Women in the Community Working Together
A group of women from the community are now making jewelry. They have joined together their resources and purchased seed to plant gardens in their homes. Using profits from vegetables grown in their home gardens they have been able to purchase ten chickens, one for each member. Now they are in the process of purchasing one sheep for each member of their group. They have purchased one sheep so far. The women's group has grown to include 25 members of the community. They meet regularly to discuss plans for when the Community Center is finally complete.

The Community Center is Almost Complete
Despite the heavy rains, construction continues on the Harvest Grove Community Center. The building should be complete by the end of May. Members of the community are excited to see this phase of our project come to fruition. David and I are amazed at what the Lord can provide.

Planting Season at Harvest Grove
Mr. Salamba assistied with the planting of the fruit trees. He also introduced Harvest Grove members to a plant that will help repel mice and rats. This plant has a tough smell and will repel mice and rats instead of killing them, helping to protect the fruit and the plants in the garden. For now, they are calling the plant "Stinker Plant" but we will do some research and find the botanical name. David confirms that the plant does work.

Concert Under the Stars Concert Under the Stars
Every year we raise some funds for Harvest Grove by selling tickets to the Concert Under the Stars event at the Herb and Kay Hafif estate. This community fundraiser is sponsored by the Hafif Family Foundation and 100% of the profits from the tickets we sell go directly to the Harvest Grove Project fund to provide seed money for future projects. This year, there will only be three evening to choose from:

  • July 24 - Smooth Touch (top 40's/ oldies)
  • July 31 - Susie Hansen (Latin/ Salsa)
  • August 7 - Jason Taylor & Change Nation (R&B and Top 40)

Each evening includes appetizers, an elegant dinner and music on a summer evening in a paradise garden carved out of the mountains in Laverne. The 120 acres of beautiful property is literally Kay and Herb's backyard. The Concert Under the Stars event now helps over 150 charities raise money for their cause. Order your tickets soon as they are selling fast. To purchase your tickets, call Jayne at 626-643-0331.

Prayer requests

  • Praise For the recovery of the man who was hired to complete the construction of the Harvest Grove Community Center. He took a fall and injured himself but he has recovered and is completing the building.
  • Prayer for the women who have been learning how to make jewlery. They have named themselves the "Jewelry Making Sonoiyat Self Help Group" and are 25 women strong now. They ask for prayer to help them get supplies to continue their craft and to find a market for some of their pieces.
  • Prayer for resources for the women in the community who have expressed interest in providing programs to the youth on the prevention of drug abuse, alcoholism, and awareness of HIV and AIDs prevention.
  • Prayer for ticket sales for our annual fundraiser event, "Concert Under the Stars".
  • Praise for Bot Chebwogen, the oldest grandmother in the community, and her neighbour Amos who are assisting with the research of medicinal plants.
