When It Rains in Kenya, It Pours
While we enjoy a mild summer in southern California, it is cold and wet in Kenya. Many of the roads in the Uasin Gishu district have been difficult or impossible to travel because of the pounding rains. Some of the tarmac roads in town have been flooded and the unpaved roads in the rural areas have turned into deep mud. Electric and Internet services have also been sporadic due to weather. But despite the heavy rains, our biggest goal has been reached. The community center roof project is complete! I will post photos of the Lecture Building when I receive them. It seems our digital camera got wet and the memory card needs to be replaced!

With the finished roof, the community center just needs a floor, four windows and a door. We can purchase 10 bags of cement (120 USD) for the floor; four windows (213USD); and one door (80USD) with the $500 we recently raised through the sale of tickets to the Hafif Concert Under the Stars this summer. The remainder of the funds will go toward the annual property taxes (120USD).

Trees Planting Day
The youth group attended the Harvest Grove Tree Planting Day in July. Together the young men assisted the transport and planting of 18 banana plants. Mr. Alex helped to plant some trees at Harvest Grove after planting a larger one in the nearby school compound.

Neighbor Purchases Greenhouse
After visiting our modest-sized greenhouse at the Harvest Grove Community Center, Mr. Chumom, a Harvest Grove neighbor, purchased his own greenhouse from Israel. His greenhouse is much larger than ours and can house up to 800 plants inside.

The manufacturer claims that the material used in this model will lasts for more than seven years. Standard polyethylene designs have a short life. Regular grades of the polyethylene sheets require replacement within nine months. Ultraviolet stabilized grades can last from eighteen months to four years. Mr. Chumom says that the greenhouse from Israel cost 2400USD.

Mr. Chumom does not allow people to enter and step inside because he is protecting the plants from any diseases.

Plants that were started in the greenhouse
David writes, "It is my prayer that we should have one [large greenhouse like Mr. Chumom's] in the future. The plants we have planted in our greenhouse are doing wonderful though it is small."
Plants that are started from seed in quality mulched soil inside the greenhouse are protected from birds, heavy rains and disease. They are transplanted into the field when they are large enough to survive.

Hello Jayne, Bwana Asifewe. This is the day that God has made, and we thank him for everything good.

The photos that I wanted to send include the lecture building, Mr. Gilbert Koskei who has volunteered to work with us in the Community Center for two weeks, and the children who joined us during a tree planting day. Also I wanted to send photos of the piped water trench towards the center.

Previously planted trees are doing well, especially the bananas, mangoes and avocados. We have added a medicinal herb garden in the corner of the property

Mr. Gilbert, Alex and I have dug trenches for the construction of the latrines and are waiting for the materials to be purchased. I have already collected more stones. The rain water is almost filling the trenches again. I will be removing the soil again after it rains.

Tell our friends of the Hafif Foundation we recognise their assistance towards our project. We are not forgetting Cornerstone Bible Church for their wonderful cooperation that is helping us to build the Community Center. One day one time we shall meet in God's Love.
Ecclesiastes 3:14 "I know that what God does endures forever."

Thanks and God bless, David and the Community.

“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and do not return to it without watering the earth and
making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the
sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes
out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire and achieve
the purpose for which I sent it.”
